About This Edition

This digital edition brings together two landmark publications of Swami Sivananda's translation and commentary on the Bhagavad Gita:

The 1939 First Edition — the original publication by the Divine Life Society — contains Swami Sivananda's complete word-for-word Sanskrit analysis, transliteration, and his extensive verse-by-verse commentary, but no Roman transliteration of the Sanskrit text.

The 2000 DLSHQ Web Edition — a later digital publication — adds Roman transliteration of each Sanskrit verse, making the text accessible to readers unfamiliar with the Devanagari script, but omits the word-for-word analysis and the extended commentary of the original.

This combined edition unites both: the transliteration and parallel translation of the 2000 web edition alongside the complete Sanskrit, word meanings, and full commentary of the 1939 original — presenting something truly unique that has not been available before, either in print or online.
